After 65 years the new frontier didn't look so new. But if you were looking for dirty girls and bikini bull riding this was the place for you. I made one last visit to the sigma derby machine where I saw an animatronic jockey cry. The place is really run down and just asking to be imploded. I will however miss the cans of milwaukee best and mud wrestling. All is not lost. The new site will hold a 5 billion dollar hotel project featuring the Plaza name. Long live the Frontier!
Tickets in Vegas are not know for being cheap. There are the 1/2 half price ticket booths, but they rarely have the major shows. Plus it's my theory that the lesser known shows double their expected ticket value knowing everyone goes for the 1/2 price tickets. I've paid full price for for some and fell into good luck with others. Here is a quick list of what I've seen over the last two years, how I liked it and what we paid.
Free B's
Stomp: Really like this one. I was it once before, basically the same show. I give it a B+
Phantom: The second time was free but the same result. This show puts me asleep. Some do really like it, I'm just not into constant load singing. C
Spamalot: Funny show. Better if you know the knights who say ni. B
Blue Man Group: Good show, fun time. Kind of a messy Stomp. B
Le Reve: This is the plaid shorts of Cirque. A small rip off of cirque show in vegas. Not a bad seat in the house. A-
1/2 Price tickets
Avenue Q: OK show. It's gone now so what does that tell ya. C+
Amazing Johnathan: Funny show with borderline magic. B-
Mystère : The first cirque show I saw, still one of my favorites. B+
Face Value
O: A bit to pricey, but a good show none the less. B
Phantom: Same result as the free version. C
I suspect COPS was filming in Vegas last night. I watched a film crew follow 5 cop cars to arrest 1 man. Overkill you say, well not if it makes for good tv. It's not like it costs tax payers anything. After my preview of the season premier I started to drive home. I had my cruse set at 70MPH on a 65MPH road. Out of no were a police car pulled right along side of me. We drive side by side for no less then a mile. He then shined a spot light in my car (real safe thing to do to a motorist driving 70)! I bumped cruse down 2 miles an hour but it had no effect on the cop car driving side by side. At this point I was nearing the lane for my exit. I moved over and he turned on his lights, but at this point he was about 2 car lengths in front of me with no one in front of him to pull over. I slowed way down and started to pull over, but then his lights went off and he drove straight as I pulled off my exit. I had no alcohol in my system and you barely could say I was speeding.
I don't know about you but when I see a cop I don't feel safe. I actually tense up and focus my energy on watching the cop. I don't like to get harassed and I especially don't like tickets. I have never scene a cop and thought thank god your here. I only think ah shit now what. But I'm not all negative. I thought maybe the cops just need something to do thats more productive.
